Classic Date Night
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with dinner and a movie in Williamsburg. The College of William & Mary’s Global Film Festival is pairing up with Chef David Everett to offer Valentine’s Day date packages Saturday that include tickets to a classic romantic flick and a meal from one of Chef Everett’s restaurants. Packages range from $30 to $50 per couple.
Saint Bede Catholic Church will host the opening concert of the Pope Benedict XVI Chamber Music Series on Saturday for a Valentine’s Day special. The orchestra will perform the Mozart Quintet featuring the love duet between first violin and first viola and the Brahms Sextet in B-flat. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, located at 3686 Ironbound Road.
History Lessons
Delve into African-American history this weekend at Jamestown Settlement, where a local storyteller and two musician groups will be telling tales of the first Africans in Virginia through orature and music. “The Storyteller” Dylan Pritchett will perform at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; the Northern Neck Santy Singers will perform at noon on both weekend days, and Legacy of Weyanoke will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Learn about the birthplace of George Washington and Robert E. Lee Sunday during guest lecturer Ed White’s talk on the Northern Neck in the Lane Auditorium at the Bruton Heights campus in Colonial Williamsburg. The lecture, titled “The Northern Neck—A Place Apart,” will cover topics such as early colonial architecture in the area and begins at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Arts Forms
The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is starting the Valentine’s Day celebration early with a love-themed poetry session Thursday. Romance writers Leah Price and Felicia Mason will share stories of love, and citizens are invited to share their original or favorite love poems. The poetry session begins at 6 p.m.
Prince George Art & Frame will hold an opening reception Friday for local Williamsburg art enthusiast Kathy Hornsby’s exhibit titled “Seeking Color: Recent Photographs by Kathy Hornsby.” The exhibit consists of 24 photos graphs from Hornsby’s travels to China, Mali, Cuba and more. The reception begins at 5 p.m. Friday and is open to the public.
Rivalry Game
The College of William & Mary’s men’s basketball team will play conference foe Delaware at home Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Kaplan Arena. Tribe fans have a chance to grab rally towels and one of 800 free T-shirts. Tickets can be bought here.
