Support youth and families in the area with a multiple course meal at Center Street Grill.
The fourth annual Step Up for Bacon Street event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the New Town restaurant.
Bacon Street takes a family-focused approach to assisting young people affected by substance abuse and mental illness. The center lost a large portion of its funding when United Way of Greater Williamsburg decreased its awards grants, and received a grant from Bruton Parish Church in October.
The event has been held at Center Street Grill all four years, and Executive Director Sandy Fagan said the restaurant has become a wonderful partner for the nonprofit organization.
The funds raised from the meal will be going directly to treatment and prevention programs. Fagan said many of Bacon Street’s clients live below the poverty level and would not be able to afford care without assistance.
“It is particularly important that we be able to continue to serve everyone in the community who needs us, regardless of their ability to pay,” Fagan said.
In addition to raising much-needed funds, the dinner will focus on educating the public on the work that the center does for the area.
“The event is really about building relationships with people in the community and potential donors for Bacon Street,” Fagan said.
Step Up for Bacon Street’s menu includes a mixed green salad, choice of entrée (chicken, salmon or New York strip) and dessert (cheesecake or key lime pie). The Hark! Featuring Liana Dagmar and David Waltrip will provide live music for guests in the Center Street Lounge before and after the meal.
Fagan said 125 people attended the fundraiser last year, and expects to see a rise in attendance this year. Tickets are not sold out yet, and this year’s event will have a tent set up on Center Street Grill’s patio for additional guests.
Admission is $50 in advance and $55 at the door, which does not include alcoholic beverages.
Tickets can be purchased at Bacon Street at 247 McLaws Circle, Center Street Grill at 5101 Courthouse St. or by phone at 253-0111.
