Tribe Track and Field Wins Five Events, Posts Five Top-10 Performances in School History at Navy Select

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — In its final tune-up before the championship season, William & Mary track and field posted five event victories and placed another five performances in the top-10 in program history at the Navy Select event on Friday.

Individually, Elizabeth Upright (pole vault), Megan Heidebrecht (long jump), Kyra Holland (mile) and Emily Ervin (200m) each claimed event victories, while the Tribe quartet of Lydia WallisBecca HarknessMolly Coyle, and Holland won the 4x400m relay.

Final Results

Both Upright and Heidebrecht turned in top-five performances in school history in winning their events. Upright’s vault of 3.90m was not only a personal best but the fifth-best mark in school history and the second-best effort in the CAA this season. Heidebrecht’s leap of 5.87m was the third-best jump in school history and the sixth-best in the CAA this season.

On the men’s side, Jason Nwosu and Sam Pritchard turned in personal bests in top-five performances in school history. Nwosu finished third in the weight throw with an effort of 18.65m, good for fifth in school history. Pritchard also finished third in the 1000m in a time of 2:23.94, which is the fifth-best time in program lore.

In the women’s weight throw, Talia Anderson earned a runner-up finish with a throw of 16.26m. It was the best mark of her career and she ranks sixth on the program’s all-time list.

Kyra Holland turned in a PR in the mile, winning the event in the time of 4:59.02. Joining Holland in the mile, Annie Wicker (third at 5:01.26), Lucy Young (fifth at 5:02.33), and Emily Sell (seventh at 5:05.01) turned in PR times.

In the pole vault, Elizabeth Strobach finished just behind her teammate Upright in second place with a height of 3.80m. She came close to matching her career-best from a few weeks ago at the Patriot Games in Fairfax, Va. Olesya Sitkowski was fifth at 3.70m, while Fiona Basewitz turned in a PR, finishing seventh at 3.40m.

Melissa Cunningham finished third in the 60m at 7.85, while Molly Coyle and Annika Griggs took fourth in the 800m (2:17.9) and 3000m (10:37.40), respectively.

In the 400m, W&M claimed four of the top five positions. Lizzy Gregory was second in a time of 58.78 followed by Jamison Gilmore (59.58), Becca Harkness (1:00.40) and Clare Howard (1:00.44).

Ethan Buenviaje was the runner-up in the men’s long jump with a distance of 6.89m.

David Seekford and Lucas Thompson each finished third in the 400m and 800m, respectively. Seekford’s time of 50.15 was just sort of his career best, while Thompson turned in a PR of 1:53.92.

Along with his performance in the weight throw, Nwosu finished third in the shot put with a toss of 15:58m.

Zack Ericksen finished fourth in the 3000m, covering the distance in a time of 8:32.70.
