WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary junior Pyper Friedman was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America Third Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Friedman became the 14th All-American in school history and first since 2019. It marks the third All-America selection under head coach Tess Ellis. The Tribe was one of 30 schools nationally to have an honoree and one of just two in the CAA. Friedman was one of 48 players nationally to earn All-America distinction.
Friedman also garnered first team all-region and All-CAA honors this season. She was a two-time CAA Player of the Week after scoring two goals against both Wake Forest (Sept. 1) and Towson (Sept. 15). Friedman led the Tribe and ranked 64th nationally in assists with eight on the year. Her assist total ranked second in the CAA and was the 10th-best single-season mark in school history. She also ranked sixth in the CAA in points (24) and ninth in goals (8).
Friedman came up big during the Tribe’s post season run, which included the program’s second CAA Championship and a win in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Phoenix, Md., native scored both Tribe goals in the CAA Semifinal win over Drexel and then assisted on the game-winning goal in the title match victory over Monmouth.
The junior midfielder tallied a goal and an assist in the NCAA Tournament win over Sacred Heart before assisting on the program’s lone goal against eventual national champion North Carolina in the first round. Each of the last three years, Friedman has played for the U.S. Under-21 National Team.
