Walsingham Academy’s girls outdoor track and field team earned first place during the Walsingham Invitational over the weekend.
The Trojans finished with 200.50 points, which topped second-place Broadwater Academy with 103 points. Hampton Roads Academy took third with 77 points.
Angel Demodna and Caroline Schumacher finished first and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Schumacher flipped the script by beating Schumacher in the 200-meter dash as the teammates finished first and second.
Kiely Curran and Delaney Riggs finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-meter dash, while Denise Dangeleit and Christen Toth took first and second place in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
Dangeleit later earned a win in the high jump, and her teammate Sarah Benson won the long jump.
The Walsingham 4×100-meter relay team and 4×400-meter relay teams also earned victories. The Trojans took second place in the 4×800-meter relay.
In the boys competition, Hampton Roads Academy finished first with 110.50 points, narrowly edging Peninsula Catholic with 108 points. Walsingham finished third with 92 points.
Daniel Woloszynowski of Walsingham finished first in the 100-meter dash, while Jack Grimson placed second in the 3,200-meter run.
Mathias Cannon finished third in the 1,600-meter run, and Sam Wilson took third in the 110-meter hurdles and triple jump. Chris Correll placed second in the 300-meter hurdles.
