Williamsburg Christian Academy suffered a season-ending 63-58 loss to Richmond Christian during Friday’s Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III semifinal round played at Richard Bland College.

Aquazia Jones started WCA on the right foot, scoring six of WCA’s 12 first-quarter points as the Eagles built a three-point lead after the opening eight minutes of play.

Despite eight second-quarter points by Charnissa Chillers, WCA was outscored 16-12 by Richmond Christian in the quarter. Heading into halftime, Richmond Christian held a 25-24 advantage against WCA.

The Eagles continued falling behind in the third quarter as Richmond Christian splashed a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter. Richmond Christian led WCA 41-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

Chillers and Armani Franklin, who scored eight and seven points in the fourth quarter, respectively, tried to keep WCA in the game down the stretch. Unfortunately, the Eagles were unable to close the gap as their season ended with the sounding of the final buzzer.

WCA finishes its season with a final record of 17-5.

“It was a great season. We came through a lot of adversity in the beginning of the year, and to be where we are now, it’s amazing,” WCA Coach Scott Jones said. “We were close to not even having a team because our numbers are low. The bigger picture, it hurts now but getting where we got to is pretty impressive.”
