Rento, Baldwin Earn MVP Honors as HRA Swimmers Sweep VISAA Meet

NavigatorsJoey Rento and Peyton Baldwin were the stars of the VISAA Division II swim invitational held Saturday, as the Hampton Roads Academy boys and girls handily won both team competitions.

The boys swimmers earned first place with 342 points as a team, 161 points clear of second-place Fredericksburg Christian.

Walsingham Academy finished in third with 129 points.

Rento, who has committed to swim for the College of William & Mary, earned MVP honors for winning the 100 fly, as well as setting a VISAA Division II record in the 100 back stroke with a time of 53.58. Rento served as the third leg in the record-breaking 200 medley relay team, notching a new Division II best 1:42.35.

Teammate Austin Ebel claimed double-winner status by taking first place in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Austin Jennings of Walsingham had a successful meet, claiming wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

On the girls side, Hampton Roads Academy scored first place with 379.5 points, which was 96.5 points ahead of the runner-ups Seton School. Walsingham Academy finished ninth with 61 points.

Baldwin, who has committed to swim for the University of Virginia, was the lone double-winner for Hampton Roads Academy, setting a new Division II record in the 100 fly with a time of 56.91, as well as taking first in the 200 freestyle.

Baldwin was the third leg on the record-breaking 200 medley relay team, which set a new Division II mark at 1:53.45.
