York boys edge New Kent in final seconds for second win in a row, Williamsburg Christian Academy girls improve to 20-1 and more.
BOYS BASKETBALL
York 71 New Kent 68
Jaylen Riggsbee scored 18 of his team-high 21 points in the second as York edged New Kent, 71-68, in a back-and-forth game that came down to the wire. Blake Kelley, who fouled out in the final seconds, netted a game-high 27 points to lead the Trojans, whose half-court heave missed at the buzzer. Freshman Lamont Simmons added 14 points and Joe Riddick finished with 10 for the Falcons, who improved to 4-8 (3-7 BRD) on the season with the win.
Grafton 66 Jamestown 43
Joey Miller led a well-balanced scoring attack with 14 points as Grafton jumped out to a 43-17 halftime lead and cruised to a 66-43 road win at Jamestown. Evan Sperling added 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds, Preston Kiedinger also finished with 12 and Isaiah Moore chipped in with 10 for the Clippers (11-2, 9-1 BRD). Trey Neville led Jamestown (3-7) with 16 points.
Smithfield 82 Warhill 73
Devonte Dedmon poured in a game-high 33 points and his younger brother Keron added 14 for Warhill in a 82-73 road loss at Smithfield. The Lions dropped to 4-8 on the season with the loss.
Tabb 79 Poquoson 35
Thirteen different players scored, led by Terrell Sheffey’s 12, as Tabb breezed past Poquoson, 79-35, to improve to 8-4 (6-3 BRD) on the season. The Tigers outscored the Islanders 20-2 in the second quarter to take a 43-15 lead into halftime.

Williamsburg Christian Academy 57 St. Catherine’s 35
Williamsburg Christian Academy’s girls basketball team improved to 20-1 on the season after defeating St. Catherine’s — the No. 4 ranked team in the latest VISAA Division 1 state poll — 57-35 on Wednesday. Tonika Pierce (16 points), Nissa Chillers (15 points) and Stephanie Seaman (14 points) scored in double figures to lead the Eagles, the No. 1 ranked team in Division 2.
