York earns first win of the season on the road and Lafayette breezes past New Kent at home in Thursday’s area girls basketball contests.

Shoynea Sellers scored a game-high 16 points as York earned its first win of the season with a 44-34 road victory at New Kent on Thursday night. Rakeema Willis added 11 points and freshman point guard Madison Van Dyke chipped in with nine in the win for the Falcons (1-8, 0-6 BRD).
Lafayette 71 New Kent 26
Keyana Brown (26 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, four assists) matched the scoring output of New Kent’s entire team Thursday night as the host Rams cruised to a 71-26 victory over the visiting Trojans. Kenya Holliday added 10 points and Tiara Strong tallied eight points and 11 rebounds for Lafayette (7-1, 6-1 BRD), which held New Kent to eight points or less each quarter.
Tabb 42 Bruton 38
Erin Fenton scored 13 points and Rae Ana Cain added 11 as Tabb edged Bruton 42-38 at home Thursday night. Alexis Calloway scored a game-high 14 points to lead Bruton, which dropped to 2-4 on the season with the loss, while the Tigers improved to 3-6 (2-4 BRD) with the victory.
