Joey Miller scored a game-high 23 points while Preston Kiedinger added 15 and Cle’von Green 14 as Grafton held off Jamestown 70-56 in both team’s season opener Wednesday night at Grafton High. Trey Neville led Jamestown (0-1) with 19 points while Daivon Turner chipped in with 11.
Tabb 69 Poquoson 31
Tabb jumped out to a 20-1 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 69-31 season-opening road win at Poquoson on Wednesday. The Tigers were led by Dante McCray, Colston Horton and Edgar Baez, who each finished with 11 points apiece. The Tigers (1-0) will look to make it two wins in a row when they visit Smithfield (1-0) on Friday.
Smithfield 67 Warhill 55
Devonte Dedmon scored 25 points for Warhill, but head coach Justin Hayes said the Lions struggled on the glass and were outrebounded “a ton” in a 67-55 road loss at Smithfield on Wednesday. Warhill (0-1) will travel to play York on Friday.
New Kent 62 York 47
York led after the first quarter was outscored 51-33 the rest of the way as New Kent pulled away to beat the Falcons 62-47 in both team’s season opener Wednesday night. Micah Scorsone led the Falcons (0-1) with 16 points while Jay Riggsbee and Blake Kelley added 15 and 11, respectively.
Bruton 87 Lafayette 37
