The Score: Tuesday’s Girls Basketball Roundup

Williamsburg Christian Academy, Walsingham girls continue unbeaten streaks, plus highlights and results from all five Bay Rivers District season-openers.

BAY RIVERS DISTRICT

Grafton 107  Jamestown 40

Olivia Wilson scored a game-high 26 points to go along with nine rebounds while Hannah Olson provided a solid all-around performance of 18 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and five steals as defending district-champion Grafton (1-0) breeze past host Jamestown (0-1) in both team’s district opener Tuesday night.

Lafayette 67  Bruton 32

Senior transfer Keyana Brown had a stellar debut of 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists and point guard Kenya Holliday added 15 points and three steals as Lafayette (1-0) rolled past Bruton, 67-32, in both teams’ season opener Tuesday night. Naya Samuels  scored a team-high 11 points and Alexis Calloway added seven to lead Bruton (0-1).

Smithfield 55  Warhill 41

It was an encouraging district opener for Warhill, which trailed by six points heading into the final quarter, as three freshman led the team in scoring. Point guard Kieran McClure paced the Lions (0-1) with 15 points while Keely Rochard added eight and was the team’s leading rebounder. Jewel Walters chipped in with six points. Jackie Jordan led Smithfield (1-0) with 17 points.

Poquoson 46  Tabb 45

Brittany Frazier (13 points) drained a pair of free throws in the final 35 seconds to help Poquoson edge rival Tabb 46-45 in overtime Tuesday. Erin Fenton connected on three 3-pointers to lead Tabb with 13 points while Imani Jarmon contributed eight points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort.

New Kent 45  York 32

Adrienne Goodlett tallied a game-high 14 points as New Kent, after trailing 15-14 at the half, outscored York 30-14 during the final two quarters to earn a 45-32 victory in both team’s season opener Tuesday night. Freshman point guard Madison Van Dyke led the Falcons (0-1) in scoring with 10 points.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Walsingham Academy 57  St. Margaret’s 25

Ashley Barnes buried six 3-point buckets and poured in a career-high 30 points to lead Walsingham Academy to its third-straight win, 57-25, over visiting St. Margaret’s on Tuesday. Hannah Parchment added 18 points, nine assists and seven steals for the Trojans, who improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.

Williamsburg Christian Academy 102  Stonebridge 16

Aquazia Jones led all scorers with 22 points, Tonika Pierce added 21 and Stephanie Seaman chipped in with 17 to lead seven WCA players in double figures as the Eagles steamrolled visiting Stonebridge 102-16 Tuesday night.
