Williamsburg Post 39 split a non-district double-header against Greenbrier Post 280 on Monday night.
Post 39 struggled at the plate in the opener en route to a 4-0 loss before a masterful pitching performance from Matt Smith helped the home team to a 7-0 victory in the nightcap.
Elsewhere, Poquoson Post 273 also lost its second straight game to open the season, 5-3 against Gloucester Post 75.

Matt Matheny and Blake Otey held visiting Greenbrier to four runs on seven hits, but Post 39’s bats fell silent mustering just three hits in seven innings. Otey struck out five batters in two and two-thirds innings of work in the loss.
Game 2- Williamsburg 7 Greenbrier 0
Matt Smith tossed a complete-game no-hit shutout to lead Williamsburg Post 39 to a 7-0 win in the second of two seven-inning games played at Warhill High. Smith went the distance while striking out 12 batters, while Michael Brumfield led Post 39 at the plate going 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and one RBI. Over eight pitched innings this season – including a two-inning relief appearance in a 11-0 win over Poquoson Post 273 two weeks ago – Smith has allowed one hit with 17 strikeouts.
Post 39 will play its second double-header in three days Wednesday night at Hampton Post 31.
Poquoson Post 273 Falls to Gloucester Post 75

After being shut out and managing a single hit through the first five innings, Poquoson Post 273 settled down to score three runs in the final four innings before dropping its second District 3 contest to open the season, 9-3 against Gloucester Post 75.
Dylan Bartells and Julian White batted 1-3 with a run scored and one stolen base apiece for Post 273.
