The Bay Rivers District boys and girls individual tennis tournaments begin on Saturday at Huntington Park in Newport News.
The singles favorites in each gender – Bruton’s Kurt Mittman and Jamestown’s Leah Walter – will be searching for their first individual district crowns.
Mittman is also part of the top-seeded doubles tandem in the boys’ doubles bracket along with teammate Patrick Riley, as is Walter, who will team up with younger sister Anna Walter, on the girls’ side.
Opening round singles matches begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by second round matches. The first round of the doubles tournaments will follow the two rounds of singles play. Action will resume at 3 p.m. Monday at Huntington Park, and conclude with championship matches on Wednesday.
