The Score: Wednesday’s Baseball, Softball Results

A few contests beat the rain (or played through it) despite weather postponing much of Wednesday’s prep sports schedule for a second straight day.

BASEBALL

Lafayette 3  Jamestown 1 (5 Innings)

Three Jamestown errors in the top of the third inning helped Lafayette score all three of its runs as the Rams prevailed 3-1 in a game that was shortened by weather on Jamestown High’s field. Luke Lipcious pitched all five innings for Lafayette with Daniel Blankinship providing an RBI single. Griffin Colorado (1-2) led Jamestown with an RBI double in the first inning that scored Matt Perry.

SOFTBALL

Jamestown 10  Lafayette 0 (5 Innings)

Virginia Tech-bound shortstop Elizabeth Henry (1-1) walked three times, stole four bases and scored three runs as Jamestown pulled away to beat visiting Lafayette 10-0 Thursday. Courtney Smith batted 1-2 with an RBI double and Aine Cannon finished 2-2.

Tabb 6  Grafton 2

Tabb overcame a 1-0 deficit in the fourth inning to win 6-2 thanks in large part to Kayla St. John, who batted 2-4 (run) and pitched two strong innings in relief for the Tigers, who improved to 13-3 on the season in the Bay Rivers District. Christa Hall (2-3) led the Clippers (8-8 BRD) with a pair of doubles.
