Dirk Williams, a Williamsburg Christian Academy senior who played eight basketball games this past season before being ruled athletically ineligible, recently signed to play for Tallahassee Community College, one of the top Division I junior college schools in the country located Tallahassee, Florida.

Williams, an athletic and versatile 6’4 wing player, averaged about 25 points and nine rebounds per game during his few games with WCA’s boys basketball team this past winter.

Williams was playing AAU hoops for the Virginia Venom before signing with TCC earlier this week. Venom coach Donovan Bridgeforth said Williams averaged close to 30 points in three games this past weekend at the Team Loaded tournament held at Fort Lee in Petersburg.

TCC competes in the Panhandle Conference, one of the most competitive Junior College conferences in the country. The Eagles have captured three conference titles and finished top three in the NJCAA tournament in the past eight years.

Williams transferred to WCA last summer from Jamestown after moving to the area from Alabama.

Eagles boys basketball coach Chris Gann, who assisted Williams in his pursuit of playing college ball, said over the course of his year at WCA Williams “developed into a whole person on and off the court academically, athletically and spiritually.”

Gann added that Williams garnered lots of interest from a number of top Division I NCAA programs such as Virginia Tech, Alabama, Miami and Cincinnati. He expects each to recruit Williams heavily during his two years at TCC.

“On the court Dirk is a game-changing type of player that has a very high skill level and a wonderful feel for the game,” Gann said in news release. “His potential is unlimited and I think he is going to a great place for him to develop, and after two years, move on to a high level Division I program.

“We are proud of him and excited for him to have this great opportunity.”

Below is a recently compiled highlight reel of Williams playing for the Virginia Venom 17U team.
