BASEBALL

Grafton 14  York 1

Lane Deaver batted 2-3 and scored three runs, Gray Harris finished 2-3 with 3 RBI and Tim Beyer went 3-3 with two runs-scored as Grafton rolled to a 14-1 five-inning victory over visiting York. Sophomore Evan Sperling allowed just one hit and one run while striking out six in five innings of work for the Clippers (6-3 BRD), who moved a game back of York (7-2 BRD), Warhill (7-2 BRD) and Lafayette (7-2 BRD), which remain in a three-way tie for first atop the district standings.

Jamestown 7  Warhill 0

William and Mary bound-pitcher Matt Smith was brilliant on the mound Tuesday, hurling a complete-game two-hit shutout while striking out nine batters as Jamestown blanked co-first place Warhill 7-0 Tuesday. The game was a scoreless tie heading into the seventh inning before the Eagles (3-6 BRD) rallied for all seven of their runs in their final at bat, thanks largely to Jacob Osborne (1-3 2 RBI), Austin Carter (2-4) and Griffin Colorado (2-3 2B).

Poquoson 9  Lafayette 3

Visiting Poquoson scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away and beat Lafayette, snapping the Rams’three-game Bay Rivers District win streak. Dave Boutell (4-5) led the Islanders (4-5 BRD) with five RBI while Jeremiah Antle paced the Rams (7-2 BRD) batting 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Greenbrier Christian Academy 18  Walsingham Academy 12

Greenbrier Christian’s baseball team racked up 18 runs on 13 hits and outlasted host Walsingham 18-12 in a slugfest Tuesday afternoon. Greenbrier Christian led 10-2 in the second inning before Walsingham (4-8, 2-2 TCIS) rallied all the way back to things 10-all in the bottom of the fourth, but Gators responded with eight runs in the final three frames to pull away. Jared Mitchell (2-6 4 RBI)) belted two homeruns to lead Greenbrier Christian, while Thomas Chisam (3-3 2B) and Alex Brondyke (2-4) drove in four RBI apiece to pace the Trojans’ offense.

SOFTBALL

Grafton 7  York 3

Winning pitcher Christa Hall chipped in with an RBI triple from the plate and Allison Deaver went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs as Grafton’s softball team handed York (6-3 BRD) its third Bay Rivers District loss of the season, 7-3 at home. The Clippers improved to 5-4 in the district with the victory.

Jamestown 11  Warhill 0

Jessica Stone pitched a four-hit shutout as Jamestown’s softball team breezed past Warhill 11-0 on the road. Brooke Smith batted 3-4 with three runs, a double and two RBI while Courtney Smith finished 2-4 with two runs-scored and one RBI for the Eagles, who improved to 2-7 in the Bay Rivers District while Warhill dropped to 3-6 in the BRD.

Christine McBeath’s goal proved to be the difference as Walsingham Academy shutout visiting Greenbrier Christian Academy at home 1-0 Tuesday.

Cape Henry Collegiate 5  Hampton Roads Academy 2

Laura Killough and Catie Slater provided a goal apiece and Kellyn DeChirico made 16 saves in goal for HRA’s girls soccer team (1-3 TCIS) in a 5-2 loss to Cape Henry. It was a 2-2 game at the half before Cape Henry rallied for three goals in the final 30 minutes.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Jamestown 4  Northampton 0

Jeff Wolons’ three-goal hat trick and one assist lifted Jamestown’s boys soccer team to a 4-0 non-district win over Northampton. It was the Eagles’ (6-2, 3-1-0 BRD) fourth victory in a row.
