The 14th annual Christine Garvey Memorial Soccer Tournament will be held this Tuesday, March 12 through Thursday the 14th.
The tournament is an annual event held throughout the Historic Triangle that helps kick off the spring high school soccer season by bringing both AAA and AA teams together and pairing each with non-district opponents. It’s named for a soccer mom and coach who died of breast cancer in December, 1998.
Three local boys and girls varsity teams – York, Grafton and Poquoson – as well as Jamestown’s girls and boys junior varsity squads are among the 32 teams that will compete.
The event, which has raised more than $127,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure cancer research fund, has two new local beneficiaries this year: Edmarc Children’s Hospice and Beyond Boobs, a local breast cancer and breast health support group for young patients dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis.
The tournament will be held at six different locations – Poqusoson Middle School, Bailey Field, Passage Middle School, Riverview Farm Park, Kiln Creek Park and Wolftrap Park.
