Williamsburg Christian Academy hoops standouts Jake Duncan and Tonika Pierce, who helped the Eagles’ boys and girls basketball teams capture the first state championships in school history last season, were each honored for reaching career scoring milestones recently.
Duncan, a 6-foot 4-inch, 185-pound senior, became the second player in school history to reach 2,000 career points last Friday in the Eagles’ 69-67 victory over Norfolk Academy. Duncan joined 2012 graduate Deron Powers, now playing for Hampton University, as the only players from the school to pass the 2,000-point plateau.
Duncan, who is averaging nearly 25 points, seven rebounds and two steals per game this season, will play on full scholarship next year at Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Pierce, WCA’s senior point guard and four-year starter, scored the 1,000 point of her career in Tuesday’s 68-32 rout of Portsmouth Christian, in which the Eagles wrapped up their fourth-straight 16-0 regular season and Metro Conference title.
On a team loaded with scoring ability and talent, Pierce has served more of a facilitating role this season averaging close to eight points, three assists and two steals per contest. Pierce joins senior Jalynn Ponzo and junior star Keyana Brown as the third member on the Eagles’ current roster to reach the 1,000 career-points milestone.
