The Bay Rivers District boys basketball tournament gets underway Monday night with four opening-round games scheduled at the home site of the higher-seeded team.
Regular-season champion Grafton, which ran the table 18-0 in district competition, begins its quest for a third straight tournament title tonight against No. 8 New Kent at home.
Will the Clippers meet No. 2 seeded Bruton (15-3) for a second consecutive year in the tournament final? Perhaps, however getting past the second round for either team could be no easy task.
Should both teams win tonight’s opening-round matchups, Grafton could potentially face arch rival Tabb, which had the Clippers on the ropes earlier this month before losing on two made free throws with 1.5 seconds left, in Wednesday’s semifinals, while Bruton could see a Warhill team that handed them a 57-56 loss in the second of two meetings back in January.
