In light of the impending snowfall expected to hit our area early Friday afternoon, each of the five Bay Rivers boys basketball games originally scheduled for Friday evening have all been postponed.
Here is the updated schedule as of early Saturday morning:
York vs. Poquoson- Monday, January 28th, boys JV at 5 p.m.; girls varsity at 6:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 8 p.m.
Warhill vs. Lafayette- February 8th, Warhill High, 7 p.m.
Tabb vs. Bruton- February 8th, Tabb High, 7 p.m.
Grafton @ Smithfield- next Monday, January 28, Smithfield High, 7 p.m.
Jamestown vs. New Kent- no date set as of late Thursday night
On the private school side, though, there are two pivotal matchups that were set for this weekend but were postponed when snow began to fall Friday.
Williamsburg Christian Academy’s girls team, ranked No. 1 the past three weeks in the Virginia Independent Schools Division II state poll, was scheduled to take on perennial state power Miller School, currently ranked No. 2 in Division II, in Charlottesville at 5 p.m. Friday. That game has been rescheduled for Sat., Feb. 9 at 5 p.m.
Saturday’s boys basketball showdown between Division II state-title contenders and Tidewater Conference rivals Walsingham Academy and Norfolk Collegiate is also on as scheduled- for 7 p.m. in Norfolk. The Trojans were ranked No. 1 in Division II for the first time all season in the latest state poll this week, with Norfolk Collegiate falling in at No. 6.
Walsingham’s girls will also travel to Norfolk on Saturday for a 5:30 tilt against the Oaks in search of their first Tidewater Conference victory.
Check back, as we’ll post any and all updates as we get them.
