All four of the higher seeds – Tabb, Bruton, Grafton and York – prevailed in the opening round of the Bay Rivers District Field Hockey Tournament on Monday.
Six-time defending Bay Rivers champion Tabb will host York at 6 p.m. in the first of two semifinals held at Tabb High Tuesday. Bruton and Grafton will square off at 7:30 p.m. for a rematch of one of the better district showdowns this season.

Alexa Weaver scored both goals on assists from Haley Mitchell and Leah Reichle as the fourth-seeded Falcons blanked Jamestown for the second time this season. York will advance to take on top-seeded Tabb in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Kaylee Maunz led the way with two goals and an assist, Caroline Beaudoin tallied one goal and one assist and Julia Young also scored as Grafton’s ‘Big Three’ lifted the Clippers into another district-tournament semifinal. Sydnie Swartwood chipped in with a goal, and goalkeeper Andrea Rinehart finished with two saves. Grafton will play number two Bruton Tuesday.

Abby Cole, Bruton’s all-time leader in nearly every offensive category with 141 career points, continued her magnificent senior campaign netting the game’s first two goals on assists from Kelly Abbinanti and Dasha Hill as the number two Panthers shutout Warhill. Bruton coach Joe Dougherty also said that Carley Shannon, who along with Cole assisted the Panthers’ third goal scored by Summer Zacharias, did an excellent job moving the ball in the midfield.

Eight different players scored for Tabb, which has allowed a single goal to district opponents this season. The Tigers will take on York in the first of two semifinals Tuesday at Tabb High.
