Bernard DeShaun Skipper was born on July 30, 1980, to Sylvia J. McKinney and the late Bernard L. Skipper of Richmond, Virginia.
He was educated in the York County and Newport News public school systems and graduated from Warwick High School in 1998. Bernard attended Virginia State University and later established his trucking business, “Skippers Services.” He joined St. John Baptist Church at the age of 12 and was also an Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 195.
Bernard loved fishing, hanging out with his Uncle Louis, whom he referred to as “Unk,” at the racetracks, and having fun with his homeboys and cousins. Bernard was a joy that could put a smile on your face anytime. His sense of humor was always above and beyond, but he was also a caring person. One thing is for sure, if you needed a food critic, look no further, just be prepared to fix that “to go” plate and receive a big smile and laugh on the way out the door. He was a true Denver Broncos fan.
As he would always say to his Mom, Love You Mom or Mother. Love You Son, see you later.
Though Bernard is no longer physically here with us on earth, the memories he created will forever remain in our hearts.
He leaves to cherish loving memories of with his mother, Sylvia J. McKinney; brother, Wayne “Weezy” D. Wyatt Jr.; daughters, Kaiya Torres and Chanel Skipper; son, Denver Skipper; mothers of his children, Christy and Ashley; uncles, Louis McKinney (Towana) and Raleigh Skipper; great-aunt, Eleanor “Aunt Toots” Banks; nephew, Xavier Wyatt; cousins, David Wright, Darren “D Bo” Banks, Garland “G- Money” Thornton, Mark Wallace, Perry Daniels, John Daniels, Ronald Canaday, Antwan Davis, and Shamel Hart; many more loving family and friends; and a shout-out to Walmart Distribution Center.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Whiting’s Funeral Home, with a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m.
