Albert Cheng-An Liu, age 88, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026. A much-loved and devoted husband of 58 years, father, grandfather, son, and brother, Albert will be remembered for his quiet and steadfast character, faithful service to the church, and enduring love for his family.
Albert was born in Xi’an, Shanxi Province, China. In 1949, during the Chinese Civil War, he and his family immigrated to Hong Kong before eventually settling in Taiwan. He completed his college education there before immigrating to the United States in 1965 to pursue further studies. He ultimately made his home in Norfolk and later in Virginia Beach where he raised his family and built his life.
Albert dedicated nearly four decades of his life to academic library administration. He served at Old Dominion University library for 23 years. He later served as Dean of the University Library at Regent University before retiring in 2005 after nine years of service.
Albert was a lifelong, active member of First Chinese Baptist Church. He was instrumental in the acquisition of the new church property in Virginia Beach and overseeing the construction of the Fellowship Hall. He faithfully served in various roles large and small including as an Elder, Deacon, and Bible Study leader. He touched many lives through his leadership, dedicated service and care for others.
Albert is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; his sons Kenneth and Timothy, daughters-in-law Fonda and Judy and his cherished grandchildren, Oliver, Joshua, Harper, and Lydia. He is also lovingly remembered by many extended family members and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Altmeyer Funeral Home at 5033 Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach on Saturday, April 18, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at Altmeyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park.
