On February 6, 2026, the world lost a remarkable soul when Luis Alberto Gonzalez passed away in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on June 3, 1942, in Colombia, Luis lived an extraordinary life of 83 years, filled with moments of joy, love, and courage.
Luis faced his final days after a bravely fought battle with bladder cancer, displaying the quiet strength and resilience that defined his life. His journey was marked by dedication and hard work, especially during his years in maintenance and facilities at J.C.C., where he was known for his unwavering commitment and skill.
Beyond his professional achievements, Luis had an appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. He relished a good cup of black coffee and held a deep affection for his family’s dogs, Luke, Mila, and Luna. A devoted fan, he cheered passionately for his favorite futbol teams, Millonarios and Barcelona. On Saturday mornings, without fail, he would watch the games with Rolando, wearing his favorite Barcelona hat. You could also find him at the Princess Anne Rec Center working out. Known for his culinary talents, Luis especially enjoyed preparing Sancocho, a dish beloved by Natilla at Christmas and Bunuelo.
Luis’s heart was as generous as it was brave. As a faithful member of the Catholic Church, he lived his life with a deep sense of faith and community. The pink rose, his birth flower, symbolized the grace and love he shared with those around him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Hercilia, and his siblings Victor Manuel, Ana Delia, and Carmen Rosa and his best friend Gabriel, Luis leaves behind a legacy cherished by those who survive him: his brothers Jaime, Neftali, Jose, and Pedro; his best friend, Blanca; his niece Zenaida and her husband Rolando; his nephew Jorge; and his great-nieces Kayla and Isabella. Many beloved extended family members and friends will also remember him fondly.
A visitation will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach, followed by a memorial mass to celebrate his life and spirit.
In true testament to Luis’s character, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Hope for Life Rescue in Virginia Beach or the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network in his name, continuing his legacy of caring for people and animals.
Luis Alberto Gonzalez touched many lives with his kindness, warmth, and unwavering spirit. While he may no longer walk among us, he leaves behind an indelible mark on the hearts of all he encountered.
