Miriam Lawson Charnock, 86, of King and Queen

Miriam Lawson Charnock went to be with her Savior and reunite with her husband and loved ones on December 14, 2025.

Miriam was one of six children born to Carey and Bertie Lawson in Cologne, VA on August 23, 1939. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in King & Queen County, attended Mary Washington College and Pan American Business School.

Miriam married Wendell Charnock and they raised their four sons in Shacklefords, VA. She was a lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Saluda, VA. Miriam began singing alto in the choir at age 17. She was a Sunday school teacher and served as chairperson of the Administrative Council for 21 years, Lay Leader and delegate to Virginia Annual Conference for 25 years. She faithfully cleaned “God House” for 50 plus years.

Miriam served as secretary of King & Queen Electoral Board for 9 years. She retired from King & Queen School System after 24 years as substitute teacher and teacher aide.

Miriam loved her flower garden, adult coloring books and puzzles.

Miriam is survived by her sons, Rondell (Michele), Mark and his friend, Katie, Chris (Jackie), Kevin (Trina); six grandchildren, Samantha Charnock, Christopher Charnock, Megan Brown (Austin), Ryan Charnock (Sophie), Morgan Williams (Justin), Rebecca Charnock ; seven great-grandchildren, Piper, Lawson and Ledger Brown, Tanner, Nash and Adeline Charnock and Landry Williams due in January 2026; siblings T.C. Lawson, Jr. (Earlene), Shirley French, Julia Gresham, Josh Lawson (Louise), Thelma Downey (Jimmy) and several nieces and nephews..

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19th at New Hope United Methodist Church, 2389 Lewis B. Puller Memorial Hwy, Saluda, VA 23149. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service, at the church.
