Joan “Joanie” Darnell Gayle, 69, of Shacklefords, VA passed away July 21, 2025.
She spent her working career at Jakes, later known as Spencer’s Convenience Store, where she retired as store manager. Joanie was a friendly face when you entered the store and loved keeping up with her customers. She dearly loved flowers.
Joanie was preceded in death by her parents Nelson and Mildred Darnell and a son William Newcomb. She is survived by her husband Michael Gayle and her three sons Bruce Newcomb (Christine), Michael Gayle (Elizabeth) and David Gayle (Jessica); her grandchildren Clay, Brandy, Amanda, Tricia and Casey Newcomb, Courtney, Kimberly, Michael Gayle, Jr., Ethan and Crystal Gayle; a sister Dale Oliver; two brothers Donald and Nelson Darnell, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 25th at Poroporone Baptist Church, 30071 The Trail, Shacklefords, VA 23156. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Vincent Funeral Home.
