Mark Janik, 66, of Virginia Beach

Mark Janik (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Mark Janik, 66, of Virginia Beach, passed away on June 24, 2025. Born on February 6, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia, Mark was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Janik.

Mark was deeply rooted in the Virginia Beach community—a place he loved dearly and contributed to in countless ways. He was best known for his radiant sunrise photos taken at the oceanfront, which he shared daily to bring beauty and peace to others. His thoughtful presence, kind heart, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his brother, Jeff Janik, and Jeff’s wife, Lindy Janik; his sister, Mary Anne Janik; nieces Jessica Floyd, Catie Hooker, and Lillie Hooker; nephew Joe Hooker; and great-nephew Matthew Floyd. He is also remembered by his former wives, Teresa Janik and Denise Thompson, and his stepson, Travis Hart.

Mark’s passing is a great loss to all who knew him. He was a loving family member, a treasured friend, and more than just a cherished neighbor—he built a close-knit circle at the oceanfront that truly felt like family.

He loved catching up with friends at places like Rudee’s, Sorella’s, or Mahi’s, Ocean Eddie’s, Doc Taylor’s, or Big Sam’s.

These places and people were a meaningful part of his everyday life. The relationships he formed weren’t just friendships—they became family.

His loyalty extended beyond his community—he held a profound love for our country and the military, honoring those who served and living with a deep sense of patriotism that shaped who he was.

He made the world brighter simply by being in it. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his parents in heaven, and that his spirit lives on in the sunrises he so dearly loved.

If you wish to honor Mark’s memory, consider supporting The Chas Foundation, a local organization dedicated to mental health awareness and services. And in true Mark fashion, take a moment to watch a sunrise, capture it in a photo, and share it—just as he always did.

At this time there are no services scheduled to take place at this time.
