Bridgette Yvette Hill, 59, of West Point, VA & King and Queen, VA, entered eternal rest, on Thursday, February 13th surrounded by her loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Collins.
Born and raised in King and Queen County, she attended King and Queen County Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1983. Following her passion for beauty and creativity, she attended Anthony’s Barber College, earning her certification in cosmetology. It is likely that nearly every woman in this room today has, at some point, sat in her chair, trusting her skilled hands to bring out their beauty.
Bridgette’s talents extended far beyond hairstyling. She built a successful career as a Sales Manager at Williamsburg Plantation, where she thrived in the art of connection and hospitality, helping families find a home away from home. Later in life she found joy in substituting at West Point Public Schools, where she became a beloved presence among student and staff, always offering wisdom, encouragement, and an infectious smile!
Above all, Bridgette’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted mother and doting grandmother, always putting her children and grandchildren at the center of her world. She leaves behind her cherished children, Dean Collins (Mery), Brittany Collins, and Keleal Carter; and her beloved grandchildren, Charleigh Harvin and MeKai Arenas-Collins, who were the light of her life.
Bridgette’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her two sister-cousins who she loved so dearly, Ykisa Jones and Paula Burse; her two best friends, Sandra Davis (Jerone) and Milton Jones (Rhoda) who shared in her laughter and her journey; one sister, Dorella Tolson (Wayne); aunts and uncles, Anne Johnson (Frankie), Deborah Collins-Miles (Charles), Patricia Walden (Albert), Susie Joyner, Veronica Palmer, Monica Simmons, Diane Simmons, Maurice “Reese” Simmons (Jessica), Terry Simmons, Kenneth Byrd(Cordice), Sylvia Colston(Johnnie), Carol D. Holmes, Charlotte Goodman, Freddie Byrd(Victoria), Bonnie McDonald(Larry), and Vanessa Byrd-Dabney, and a host of family and close friends.
Bridgette was a woman of grace, kindness, unconditional love, and resilience. She loved to spend time with her family and was the life of the party! She was also a member of the Homemakers Club #4, and Sisters Who Slay Est. 2023.
A woman of warmth, strength, and unwavering love, Bridgette touched the lives of so many with her radiant spirit and generous heart. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, in the laughter of her grandchildren, and in the countless lives she touched along the way. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that her love will never fade-it will continue to shine in the memories we hold dear!
A funeral service will be held 1PM Friday, February 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Hockley, 2356 York River Rd, Shacklefords, VA 23156.
