Joyce Ann Gunderlach nee Blocker, 76, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 in Newport News, Virginia. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Adolph Blocker and Roberta Mae Blocker nee Cottrell.
Joyce graduated from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school and later transitioned to be a stay-at-home mom. Joyce was an active member of Reformation Lutheran Church in Newport News and also served as an Officer of Election. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and league bowling. Joyce married the love of her life, David Gunderlach, on June 5, 1971 in Davenport, Iowa.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Robin D. Blocker. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca E. Gurzynski; her sons, Jonathan D. Gunderlach and Ryan C. Gunderlach; her brothers, Robert D., Richard D., Ray A. and Ronald D. Blocker and her sisters, Judy Ann Miller and Janis Anita Muench.
In Newport News, the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Reformation Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at the church.
In Davenport, Iowa, the family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at the church.
