Richard Elwood Adams, 84, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
A graduate of Hampton High, Richard served in the National Guard, started his career at the shipyard as a sheet metal worker, transitioned to an electrician where he eventually served 6 years as the Business Manager of I.B.E.W Local 1340 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).
Richard’s love and appreciation for family and friends were evident in his deep concern and thoughtfulness in every facet of his life. You knew, without a doubt-how important and valued you were through his actions/ and words both spoken and written . In fact, there wasn’t any area of his home that wasn’t overflowing with pictures of his family.
He has always had a passion for cars since a very young age. Through the years, he has sought after, found, tinkered with, and restored over 100 cars. He’d often say he was done buying cars, and then he would have another the next week. There was nothing Richard could not figure out how to build. He was definitely gifted with knowing how to build anything and with attention given to detail. If it wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t right.
This man, this Dad, this partner, this Grand-dad, and this friend will be so very missed. The hole in our hearts can never be filled.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood Snow and Nellie Adams; his son, Richard Elwood Adams, Jr.; his siblings, Jerry Adams, Dorothy Bowman, and son-in-law, Michael Hunter. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Hunter; wife, Carol Moore; step-daughter, Amy Durham (Joey); grandchildren, Trenton Hunter (Malissa), Amanda Little (Steve), and great-grandchildren, Breona, Blake, Vera, and Grant.
In remembrance of Richard’s life, the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the funeral home with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
