Alysha Melanie Borden, our sweet earth angel, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia. Born on April 22, 1992, in Ogden, Utah, Alysha lived a life filled with love, joy, and inspiration to all who knew her.
Alysha is survived by her loving family; her father, John James Borden, paternal stepmother, Sunday Marro, her mother, Jennifer Marie Walz, maternal stepfather, Scott Slocum,sister, Shelby Leah Borden, and her brother, Edward Connor Ormond. She also leaves behind her cherished grandparents; maternal grandparents, Leslie Thomas Walz and Stella Walz, and paternal grandparents, Evangeline Beaudoin and John James Borden, Sr. Alysha will be deeply missed by her aunts and uncles; Gretchen and Christopher Walker, Brandon Borden and Melissa Paige, her godmother, Amanda (Doug) LaFave, her godfather, Richard Westgate , and her beloved cousins; Colson and Cora Walker, and Keenan and Liam Schall.
Alysha graduated in 2013 from Norfolk Public School SECEP program where she touched the lives of classmates and teachers alike. Her vibrant spirit and infectious smile brightened every room she entered, making even the darkest days seem brighter. A dedicated member of the Girl Scouts since 2005, Alysha was an active participant in troops 5067 and 152. Her commitment to service and personal growth through scouting was a testament to her character and compassion for others.During COVID-19 Aly joined the GS meetings on zoom. Jennifer brought the project supplies here for Aly to do which included making no-sew blankets for different shelters and also for foster kids. She also helped stuff stockings for Salvation Army here at home.In 2022, Alysha’s inner and outer beauty shone brightly as she was named first runner-up in the Miss Amazing pageant, a platform that celebrates the abilities and talents of girls and women with disabilities.
Alysha fought courageously through her challenges, always maintaining her radiant spirit. Her strength and perseverance were an inspiration to all who knew her. Aly was so loved by everyone that has ever had the pleasure of meeting her. She made every room brighter, and her smile, oh that beautiful smile could make all the bad days run and hide. She fought so hard for so long, and she won her race. She can now relax and watch over all of us until we see her again.
We love you so much, Aly, and you are forever in our hearts. Alysha’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, resilience, and the human spirit. While she may no longer be with us in person, her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace among the angels, continuing to watch over her loved ones until we meet again.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 at 2:00pm at St. Mary’s Albero House, 6171 Kempsville Circle Norfolk, VA 23502.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Mary’s Albero House.
