John Thomas Barry, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 74.

Born on September 20, 1949, in Somerville, Massachusetts, John lived a life filled with dedication and laughter.

John’s career in civil service at the Department of Defense touched countless lives, as he worked diligently to serve his country. He was a true patriot, always willing to lend a helping hand and ensure the safety of others.

Outside of work, John was an active member of various organizations that brought joy and camaraderie into his life. As a member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #3548), he found a strong sense of community and friendship. John’s enthusiasm for the Ocean View St. Patrick’s Day Parade led him to take on the role of chairman for several years, showcasing his love for celebrations and bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.

Not only did John excel in his professional and community endeavors, but he also made a lasting impact on the lives of young athletes. He dedicated his time to coaching Little League (NAS Little League) baseball, sharing his knowledge and passion for the sport with the next generation.

John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kathy Stevens Barry, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they created a beautiful family that brought immeasurable joy to their lives. His children, Gordon Barry, Roy and his wife Crystal Barry and his daughter Caitlin Whitley and her husband Kevin Whitley, will forever cherish the memories they shared with their father.

The legacy of John’s vibrant spirit will continue through his seven grandchildren: Connor Barry and his wife Ali Barry, Brooke Barry, Wyatt Barry, Keegan Barry, Aidan Barry, Madalynn Whitley, and Gabrielle Whitley. Each one carries a piece of his humor and kindness, ensuring that his memory lives on in their hearts.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Francis Barry, as well as his sisters Kathleen Barry and Mary Antonangeli and brothers Michael Barry and Timothy Barry. He will be deeply missed by his sister Ellen Langley and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In this time of sorrow, let us remember John Thomas Barry as a man who dedicated his life to service, laughter, and the happiness of others. May he rest in eternal peace, forever cherished in our memories.
