Herman E. Sweeney, 95, of Mathews, passed away on April 3, 2023.
Herman E. Sweeney was a genuine member of the “greatest generation”. After losing his father at an early age, Herman began driving a pulpwood truck at thirteen. His strong work ethic continued with service in the Navy and college with a teaching career and Master’s Degree in mathematics.
He was happiest with family, and he had a love for tennis.
Preceding Herman in eternal rest are his wife, Charity; son, Geoffrey; and significant other, Lucille Tissen. Surviving him are, daughter, Cheryl and her husband Mike, of Alexandria; son, Kevin E. Sweeney and his wife Olha, of Hagerstown, MD.; daughter-in-law, Pia Aragon Sweeney, of Hagerstown, MD; and grandchildren, Jacob and Kate.
Burial will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023, at noon at James City Chapel Cemetery, 7501 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
