Our beloved son, nephew, and special friend, Morris Cooper Jr., affectionately known as “Junior” or “Coop,” departed this life on Sunday, November 6, 2022, in Richmond, Va. His life began on December 24, 1978, to Vanessa Lawrence and Morris Cooper Sr.
At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and joined Shiloh Baptist Church where he formerly served as an usher.
He attended Lafayette High School. Junior worked at Sassy Jones in Richmond as a warehouse man where he was affectionately loved by his co-workers. He loved playing baseball and watching the World Series. He also played little league baseball as a little boy. He loved to cook and prepare meals for his girlfriend, listening to Reggae and R&B music, and hanging with his family and friends, especially his mom whom he frequently visited and had lunch and dinner dates with her. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
Coop is preceded in death by his grandparents, Vertana and William Lawrence Sr., and Lillie Mae and Willie Cooper Sr.; uncle, Larry Cooper; and aunt, April Cooper.
He leaves to cherish fond memories with his mother, Vanessa Lawrence; father, Morris Cooper Sr. (Denise); stepsister, Sy’nora Cooper; stepbrother, Antione Meeks; aunts, Daphne Hill, Loretta Rose (Leroy), Ethel Cooper (Michea’l), Mary Cuffee (Miche’al), Lisa Ashby, and Deloris Gay; uncles, Russell Walker (Rosalind), William Lawrence Jr. (Alida), Stephon Lawrence (Vickie), Willie Cooper Jr. (Belinda), Glenn Cooper (Benita), Benson Cooper, and Eddie Cooper; special friend, Shalyn Fisher; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Bethel Restoration Center. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery. Mr. Cooper may be viewed from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
