Eldon A. Major, 75, claimed the promise of the Resurrection Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. He was born Aug. 30, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Ethel and Elijah Major. Eldon was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna and Evelyn Major.

Eldon is survived by his beloved wife of more than 51 years, Beverly Major; two loving daughters, Karen and Beth; favorite son-in-law, Jamey; and grandson, John. Eldon was our cherished husband, father and grandfather, and he will be missed tremendously.

Eldon served for 27 years and retired with distinction from the U.S. Navy. He was a proud plank owner of the USS Kearsarge, weapons instructor and veteran.

A visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 4, at Memorial United Methodist Church, 804 Gammon Road, Virginia Beach. A memorial service will be held at noon, Monday, Feb. 5, at the church.
