
Mary Elizabeth “Libby” McInnis Britton, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017. She was the daughter of Clay Wall McInnis and Hattie Apple McInnis and was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Bland Britton.
Libby was a warm, creative grandmother, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born March 12, 1931, and grew up in Pleasant Garden, N.C. After graduating from Woman’s College of UNC-Greensboro, she met and married Wally and had four children. She attended Nimmo United Methodist Church.
Libby was a gifted artist, spending many hours illustrating the flowers she loved. Her creative nature also led her to the violin and piano. She was known for her love of animals, especially cats, and over her lifetime, she gave a home to many well-loved cats and dogs.
Libby is survived by her four children and their families, Richard Britton, and his wife, Carolyn, of Virginia Beach, Pam Myers, and her husband, Paul Langley, of Chesapeake, Nancy Slack of Suffolk and Cindy Lane, and her husband, Mike, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Renee Britton of Virginia Beach, Sam Britton of Milwaukee, Jeremy Myers of Suffolk, and children Juliet and Micheal, Sean Myers, and his wife, Hisako, of Japan, and children, Kristine and Alice, Shannon Myers Will, and her husband, Carl, of Charleston, and children Johnnie and Emma, and Daria Slack of Savannah.
She is also survived by two sisters, Theba Thornton and Ellen Wood, and her husband, Charles; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at Nimmo United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach.
