Richard Willis Sawyer, 82, went to his heavenly Father on Sunday, April 17, 2016.
He was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He graduated from Kempsville High School and played quarterback on the school’s football team for four years. He loved playing sports, hunting, fishing and working in his yard. Mr. Sawyer was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Sawyer Sr. and Emma Sawyer; wife, Grace Lee Sawyer; and brother, Richard Sawyer Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Angela Y. Vick, and her husband, Craig; granddaughter, Georgia C. Deal; grandson, Jeffrey P. Deal Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment in Rosewood Memorial Park will be private.
