
Nancy C. Reighard, 84, died Thursday, April 14, 2016, surrounded by her daughters. She was born in Huntington, W.Va., in January 1932, to the late Eugene and Elizabeth Cottle.
She grew up in Portsmouth and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. After becoming a registered nurse, she worked as a hospital nurse, Navy relief nurse and as a director of nursing. She taught at College of the Albemarle for certified nursing assistants, and she was beloved by her students. A go-getter, she obtained her real estate license before retiring. She and her husband, Ron, moved to Hertford, N.C., where she was active at New Hope UMC and Durants Neck Raritan Club. She was involved in the Perquimans Art League from the beginning; volunteering, serving on the board and entering shows.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ronald Reighard; and sister, Rosemary Cottle.
She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Anne Waterfield (Earl) and Karen Simmons (Don), all of Virginia Beach, and Gretchen Muscari (Frank) of Morristown, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and four and a half great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Anderson (Paul); and niece, Talitha Fowlkes (Keith).
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Perquimans Art League.
