Mary Margaret Urick, 90, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016. She was born to the late Thomas Joseph and Mary Margaret Carreras on September 25, 1925.
Mary joined the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in 1952. She was the regent of Court Norfolk 1212 and later of Court of the Holy Spirit. Mary also served as district deputy followed by Virginia State regent. She instituted Court Stella Maris in Virginia Beach, of which she was a recent member. Mary was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and served as president of the Woman’s Club. She also sang in their funeral choir. She and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels for many years together.
She was married to the late L. Michael Urick Sr. for more than 66 years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, son-in-law and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Urick is survived by her three sons, L. Michael Urick Jr. (Sheila), T. Joseph Urick (Jean) and John F. Urick; two daughters, Margaret U. Harrell and Mary J. Segar (George); 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. A Mass of the resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6350 Center Drive, Norfolk, VA 23502.
