Madie Luvenia Jackson, 95, retired from Virginia Beach Police Department after 21 years’ service

Madie Luvenia Jackson, 95, entered into the arms of her heavenly Father on Friday, April 15, 2016. The eldest of four children, she was born in Rich Square, N.C., to the late Oliver and Clara Gatling on December 15, 1920. She was the widow of Mr. Gus E. Jackson Sr., who also preceded her in death.

Madie retired from the Virginia Beach Police Department after 21 years of service. She was a member of St. Mark AME Church for over 60 years, where she was a member of the Gospel Choir, the Stewardess Board and the Daughters of St. Mark. She later began attending New Jerusalem COGIC.

Left to cherish Madie’s memory are her daughter, Linda Jackson Singleton; son, Gus E. Jackson Jr. (Fontaine); sister, Lois Majette; grandson, Rodney Jones (Anita); two granddaughters, Delpheon Smith and Shayla Jackson Ward (Mark); great-grandson, Mark A. Ward Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Beach Funeral & Cremation Services Inc. A homegoing celebration will be held at noon Wednesday, April 20, at New Jerusalem COGIC. Interment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
