Annie Inez Cahoon Beck, 90, naturally talented pianist

Annie Inez Cahoon Beck, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 12, 2016, surrounded by the love and support of her children. She was born on October 23, 1925, to the late Otis and Alma Cahoon of Gum Neck, N.C., in their family home.

Graduating in the top three of her high school class, she also played on the basketball team. After school she married and joined the war effort as a clerk. A naturally talented pianist, she played in church for many years. Known to her family and friends as an excellent cook and baker, her cakes will be missed at family gatherings for years to come.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Henry Beck; brother, Horace Cahoon; and her son-in-law, the Rev. Benny Hampton.

She leaves behind two sisters, Jane Rhodes and Grace Combs, and her husband, Jack; and sister-in-law, Nanette Cahoon. She was loved by her three children, the Rev. Terry Beck, and his wife, Mary Nell, Sharon Beck Hampton and Theresa Beck Lockhart, and her husband, Jessie. She was the doting grandmother to 10 grandchildren and sweet great-grandmother to 18. Her numerous nieces and nephews brought her much joy.

Her humor, kind heart and sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hyde Park Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 30 years, at 8501 Chesapeake Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23503.
