In the heart of Williamsburg, Fat Canary serves upscale American fare & wines, with a cheese shop & patio.
And there’s something new.
It’s called Downstairs at Fat Canary, it’s more casual and is now open for dinner Tuesdays through Sundays 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Mary Ellen Power, owner of the restaurant, said her family business has been going for 49 years. The downstairs restaurant has been in the planning for years.
“We have been wanting to open a more casual restaurant, excellent food, but less expensive and smaller plates,” said Power.
Renovation started in January and just finished last week. Downstairs is designed to seat 55 people, but with COVID-19 restrictions they are seating about 28.
As for safety precautions during the pandemic, people have to wear a mask to come in, there’s no seating at the bar, all tables are six feet apart and all servers wear masks and gloves.
