The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation will be able to expand its efforts to promote the Historic Triangle as a travel destination with help from a grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Marketing Leverage Program.
The $50,000 award is a 2:1 matching grant, which means partnering organizations JYF, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Preservation Virginia and the National Park Service pooled together $100,000 to receive the grant, said Debby Padgett, JYF media relations manager.
Padgett said the funds will be used to support advertising and the production and distribution of a brochure promoting the America’s Historic Triangle ticket.
The ticket includes seven consecutive days of unlimited visits to Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestowne, Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area and Art Museums, Yorktown Battlefield and the Yorktown Victory Center, Padgett said.
Padgett said JYF will expand its marketing in fiscal 2016 by emphasizing seasonal offers like winter-priced tickets and packages. The foundation will also promote the Historic Triangle through a new video and a new Jamestown Settlement app, Padgett said.
“We want people to know about the program. It helps to promote the destination,” Padgett said.
JYF received a Virginia Tourism Corporation marketing grant last year and has earned nine total. Padgett said 23,269 America’s Historic Triangle tickets were sold in 2014.
Susan Bak, senior director of marketing and retail operations from JYF, wrote in an email that the ticket is an easy way for visitors to enjoy all of Greater Williamsburg’s assets.
“Consumers have varying interests when planning vacations, and we want to convey the message that the history for which Williamsburg is well-known provides enriching, engaging and fun experiences,” Bak wrote.
