NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport University is waiving the application fee for students whose parents missed paychecks because of the partial government shutdown.
The parents must be federal employees or contractors to get the $65 admission fee waived. Read more about the waiver here.
According to the university’s announcement, the admission fee funds the costs of processing applications and CNU will absorb the money lost through the reminder of the current admissions cycle.
“At a time when high school seniors are applying to college and their families are enduring economic hardship, this is a small step we can take to reduce costs and stress for the federal workers who serve and protect us,” said Rob Lange, dean of admission at CNU.
The deadline to apply to Christopher Newport University is Feb. 1.
