The Williamsburg Regional Library is closing the Williamsburg and James City County libraries starting Friday because of the rising coronavirus cases in the Historic Triangle.

“WRL leadership made the decision to temporarily close the library’s doors in the interest of public and staff safety,” according to the library’s news release announcing the closure. “This decision was taken after close consultation with local officials, and is in line with the actions of several other library systems in the region.”

“Overdue fines for materials will not accrue during the closure,” according to the library’s announcement.

During the closure, the libraries will not accepted donations materials and the AARP Tax Aide service is “delayed” until the buildings reopen.

While the buildings will close temporarily, the book drop off locations at the libraries and throughout the community will remain open. In addition, the Williamsburg Regional Library will continue its virtual programs and curbside pickup service https://wrl.org/wrl-to-go/

Residents with a library card can still access the library’s digital resources such as ebooks, movies, genealogy research and other services, too, at this link: www.wrl.org/comes-to-you

“Even though the buildings are closed, the library continues to be strongly committed to offering a broad array of services, including curbside pickup of holds, computer use by appointment, and a new personalized book selection option, ‘Quick Picks,'” Betsy Fowler, library director, said in a prepared statement. “Our exciting One Book One Community virtual events and other virtual programs are moving forward as planned.”

The Williamsburg Regional Library will continue to monitor the local coronavirus data.
