WILLIAMSBURG — The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation is inviting adventurers of all ages to lace up or roll out for the Cap Trail Summer Challenge through Sept. 8.
Participants can set their distance goals and run, bike, walk, or skate their way along the scenic 51.7-mile Virginia Capital Trail that stretches between Richmond and historic Jamestown, according to the foundation.
The Summer Challenge offers three unique distance goals:
- 51.7 Miles — Conquer the entire length of the Capital Trail
- 103.4 Miles — Make the full round trip for the There and Back Again trek
- 517 Miles — Complete the Cap Trail ten times to celebrate its 10th birthday
Participants can complete their challenge in one trip or break it into smaller segments, the only requirement is to pass every mile marker between Richmond and Jamestown at least once in either direction, according to the foundation. Bonus miles can be logged on the Capital Trail or by exploring somewhere new.
“The Summer Challenge is a fun way to stay active while connecting with health, nature, and community,” says Cat Anthony, Executive Director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. “We love seeing people of all ages enjoy the Capital Trail and explore their community in their own unique way.”
The foundation added all registrants are invited to an end-of-summer party on Sept. 13, featuring fellowship, community fun, and an awards ceremony to honor top finishers and celebrate summer miles.
Registration is $27 through June 30, with a $5 price increase on July 1. All proceeds support the year-round mission of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation to protect, promote, and enhance the Trail.
