
NEWPORT NEWS — The World Arts Celebration has a new date after inclement weather cancelled the previous celebration.
It will now take place on Aug. 4 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. around the fountain at City Center at Oyster Point.
The event will commemorate more than 30 cultures from around the world through performing arts, food and music, according to a news release from the city.
The ceremony was originally scheduled for May 19.
The Junkanoo Commandos will be the headliner for the celebration. The group specializes in Bahamian music.
Their performance begins at 7 p.m. and patrons will receive free bells and whistles to join in on the show.
Updates and weather-related announcements will be posted on Facebook, according to the news release.
