NEWPORT NEWS — Locals who buy and sell items online now have a safe space to trade items courtesy of the Newport News Police Department.
The department has designated two parking spaces at its headquarters as “safe exchange zones,” according to a news release from the department.
Police ask that transactions be made between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. but the spaces will also be monitored at all times.
“These safe exchange spaces are meant to facilitate person-to- person transactions. Property may not be left unattended. Large bulky, and/or cumbersome items, (i.e. appliances, furniture, etc.) are not allowed. And, of course, the exchange of any contraband, stolen property or other illegal items or the conduct of any unlawful
transactions is prohibited,” police wrote in the news release.
The department is also not responsible for any loss, damage or injury, according to the release.
