Inside No Nuts Donuts: Where Allergy-Friendly Treats Take Center Stage

WILLIAMSBURG— Catie Maharg started making donuts for her son as a hobby due to his allergies. Now it’s become something so much more.

Maharg started developing recipes with foods she had as a kid that he would likely never get to have due to his severe allergies. She had started making donuts for him back in 2022 and began No Nuts Donuts as a hobby and farmers market attendee. That changed, however, after her divorce in 2024.

“I needed to come up with a way to support myself and my kids, and decided to focus on just growing my brand and converted the garage in my house into a commercial kitchen, and got it inspected and approved by the state, and just kind of started growing it from there,” Maharg said.

Before No Nuts Donuts, Maharg had competed on Guy’s Grocery Games in 2015. She had competed in order to raise money for her son’s adoption, noting that both of her children are adopted. She had won the particular episode she was on.

“The Guy’s Grocery Games was a crazy experience. Just so many cameras and the time restraints and it was a whirlwind,” she recalled.

Everything for the show was filmed in one day. They had also filmed in October of that year, but it wouldn’t air until February. During that time, she wasn’t allowed to tell anyone that she had won, which she found difficult.

She had owned a business before her son’s birth, but closed up shop to be a full-time mother, as that was why her family had been chosen for the adoption, because she had said she wouldn’t be putting her child in daycare.

“My business was getting to the point that I couldn’t juggle both. So to stay true to my word to the birth mother, I decided to close my business so that I could be with him full-time. Which was a very difficult decision because most of my life outside of high school has been very career-oriented,” Maharg explained.

She says out of this, though, No Nuts Donuts has blossomed and has been a huge blessing.

“It’s allowed me to still do what I love to do and be home with both of my children,” she added.

All of No Nuts Donuts offerings are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free and artificial dye-free. The business does not have a brick-and-mortar and specializes mostly in wholesale as well as private orders.
