WILLIAMSBURG— The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) and CultureFix are inviting the community to help select one of the winners of the 2026 Bus Art Contest.
Community voting for the Aspiring Artist (Under 18) category will take place online through March 15, giving people the opportunity to choose their favorite design inspired by this year’s theme, “Spirit of 1776.” The theme commemorates the 250th anniversary of American Independence and celebrates Virginia’s role in the American Revolution.
Community members can view the artwork and cast their vote at: gowata.org/266/Bus-Art-Contest.
The Bus Art Contest called on local artists from James City County, the City of Williamsburg, and York County to submit original designs that reflect the theme. Three winners will ultimately be selected. The other two categories, Amateur and Professional, will be selected by a panel of art and subject experts and the WATA Board of Directors.
Each winning artist will receive a $500 check prize, and their designs professionally produced and displayed on a WATA bus, allowing thousands of passengers, community members, and visitors to enjoy the art throughout the Historic Triangle.
Winning designs will be announced throughout April 2026.
